Press Release
The Central Secretariat of the Communist Party of India has issued the following statement to the press:
The Secretariat of the Communist Party of India demands a judicial inquiry into the so-called encounter in Chhattisgarh in which seven innocent villagers including four CPI comrades were killed by the CRPF. The incident has been reported late because of the terror let loose by police in that area.
Eleven CRPF personal were killed in a land blast on 20th June. Police in a retaliatory act killed seven villagers belonging to Sonthanar village of Darbha Tahsil of Bastar district on the same day. Those who are killed by the police are in no way connected with the naxalites. Four of them (1). Com. Samuloo (2) Com. Sukaloo (3) Com. Sampat and (4) Com. Dahewoo are members of the CPI. The last one was the president of the local unit of Adivasi Mahasabha. CPI National Executive Member Com. C.R. Bakshi visited the village alongwith party leaders and inquired the details of incident. He and the State Party Secretary submitted a memorandum to the governor. But no result yet.
The Communist Party of India demands that Rs. 10 lakhs ex-gratia should be sanctioned to each of the family of those seven innocent villagers killed by the CRPF and a judicial inquiry should be ordered immediately.
The CPI rejects the allegations on Com. C.R. Bakshi and other CPI leaders of Chhattisgarh by the CPI (Maoists). The CPI is fighting for the rights of Adivasi people and never supported any act to displace them. The CPI is committed to industrialization and also welfare of tribal people which are not contrary to each other. The CPI deplores that the CPI(Maoists) are resorting to threats on the CPI members in Bastar asking them to resign from the CPI and forcing them not to renew their party membership.
The individual annihilation policy of Maoists is in fact creating more problems for the innocent villagers of Chhatisgarh as they are becoming victims of police as happened in Bastar recently. Maoists should rethink and join the mainstream mass movements of the people.
