HYDERABAD: Terming the encounter death of CPI (Maoist) Central Committee member Patel Sudhakar Reddy and State committee member Venkataiah as `fake’, the Andhra Pradesh Civil Liberties Committee (APCLC) today demanded the State Government to register murder cases against the police personnel involved in the fake encounter.
It also wanted the Government to order a magisterial enquiry into the incident.Addressing a press conference here today, APCLC fact-finding committee members who included APCLC senior leader Prof G Haragopal, State committee members D Suresh Kumar, R Rajanandam and V Raghunath along with deceased’s (Sudhakar Reddy) sister-inlaw Tirumala Devi said that the circumstantial evidence and the versions of local people corroborated with the suspicion that the Maoist leader was taken into custody at Nasik (Maharashtra) on May 23 and was later killed in a fake encounter in Palvai forest area in Warangal district on May 24 morning.
The SIB (Special Intelligence Bureau) sleuths killed them, including Venkataiah, in a
stage-managed encounter.“We have inspected the encounter spot as well as the place in Nasik where the Maoist leader had stayed. “How could it be possible for the Maoist leader to travel over 1,000 km distance in a few hours,’’they argued.
The APCLC members said that incidents of `fake’ encounters by the police have stopped in the State when the High Court had given a ruling on February 6 that fake encounters were punishable offences. However, the police resumed fake encounters when the Supreme Court had issued stay orders on the High Court ruling.
The State Government would be held responsible for any harm to deceased’s sister-in-law who was facing life threat from the police, they added.
