State repression in Lalgarh

Repression_anup_mandalAthlete Anup Mandal of Goaltore near Lalgarh was so severely beaten    by police and    paramilitary forces that his athletic carrier is at stake.

Bone of his left hand is broken.He has been   under treatment with severe injuries in his back and waist.

On 19 June 2009 when he was returning from one of his friend’s home at Pingboni, the operation of combined forces was underway.

The forces not only torchered him but also broke his bicycle.

Narayanpatna:Chashi Mulia Adivasi Sangha Seized 2000 acres of land from the land lords

Sudhakar Patnaik, Narayanpatna: The tribals of Narayanpatna Seized 2000 acres of cultivatable land from the land lords under the banner of Chashi Mulia Adivasi Sangha known as SANGAM (C.M.A.S) are distributing the land by its Secretary Nachika Linga to the landless.
The sized cultivatable lands covered with Red Flags, Members of the observation committee led by the Koraput Bar Association President Nihar ranjan Pattnaik its Vice- President Krushna Sawn, Advocate Bibek Ranjan Sethi, Social Activist Manoranjan Routray, and senior Journalist K. Sudhakar Pattnaik met Nachika Linga who gave an exclusive interview to the members of the team on Saturday last. Lalgarh children want schools back from forces

11binpur1Midnapore, July 13: Armed Maoists are allegedly going around the Lalgarh region at night and telling villagers to press for the removal of police camps from school premises.

Within three days of a students’ protest demanding that their classes be allowed to resume, the administration vacated seven rooms. But some students of Binpur High School today shouted slogans vowing not to let classes start until the entire police camp was shifted.

At Gohomidanga, 15km away, nearly 600 students took out a procession and marched to the local high school, demanding that the forces staying there since July 1 move out.

Many villagers said the protests that began spontaneously among students and teachers was being steered by the Maoists and their sympathisers now. Read the rest of this entry »

Maoist nabbed from tribal colony at Pulpally in Wayanad

KOZHIKODE: The police have arrested Sinoj alias Ramesan, 32, an activist of the Revolutionary Peoples Front (RPF), a frontal organisation of the CPI (Maoist), from the Chekadi colony at Pulpally in Wayanad on Sunday.

The police also recovered three propaganda CDs, a booklet on Lalgarh and some literature related to Maoists in Nepal. Sinoj was produced in the Judicial First Class Magistrate’s court, Sulthan Batheri, which remanded him in judicial custody.

Sinoj, who hails from Talikkulam in Thrissur district, was picked up by the police from a tribal colony following a tip-off. The colony was under police watch for sometime following information that Maoists were ‘concentrating’ on the area. Read the rest of this entry »

Orissa’s Lalgarh in the making

Bhubaneswar: The might of the Indian state did win the battle for the government against Maoists and their supporters in Lalgarh , but the war is far from over. In neighbouring Orissa, armed tribals have taken over villages and land, leaving the local administration helpless and with little choice but to flee.

Tribals armed with swords and axes have taken over some 300 acres in the Bandhugaon block of Maoist-affected Koraput district. Four months ago, they had taken over five of the nine panchayats and 1000 acres of land in the adjoining Narayanpatna block in the district, around 550 km from Bhubaneswar.
