Friday 14th August, 2009 (IANS)

New Delhi, Aug 14(IANS) Teachers of Jamia Millia Islamia University Friday staged a protest at ITO crossing here against what they called ‘encounter killings’ by the state police forces in various parts of the country.

‘We are protesting against the encounter killings by state forces, the arbitrary arrests of Muslim youth and the blatant whitewashing of such crimes by state agencies. All this in the name of national security and war against terror,’ Manisha Sethy, president of Jamia Teachers Solidarity Associaton, told IANS.

Jamia teachers, who came along with members of the All India Students’ Association (AISA) and Manipur Students Association of Delhi, said the ‘cold-blooded murder’ of Chungkham Sanjit, a 27-year old Manipur man in broad daylight July 23 by the Manipur Police Commandos was an evidence.

They pointed out that he was murdered barely 500 metres from the state assembly building in Imphal and this showed ‘the sordid truth’ of how people were being indiscriminately killed in the name of gun battles with the police. Read the rest of this entry »

In Commemoration of 25th Martyrdom Anniversary of Comrade Krishna Singh,Secretary of the Mazdoor Kisan Sangrami Samiti. who was assasinated on 17th June 1984

.The first martyr of the revolutionary peasant movement was comrade Krishna Singh in 1984.This beloved comrade came from the ranks of the poor peasantry. He failed to complete his school education and took up a job as a casual labourer in Calcutta in a jute mill.On returning to Bihar he worked as a bus conductor in the State transport co-operation. At the call of Naxalbari he became actively involved in the peasant struggle in Aurangabad. He also organised the workers of Japla Cement factory when he was arrested. On being released he began to organise the peasantry and became the secretary of the M.K.S.S on June 17th 1984 while conducting a meeting at Jharha in Palamau district he was attacked by a landlord. At first the peasants stood up but the landlord re-appeared with a bunch of goondas and forced the peasants to flee.Showing great tenacity Krishna Singh continued to speak but tragically was gunned down. This comrade was a flower that bloomed as later several peasant activists were to lay down their lives for the cause of emancipation. The commemoration meeting held for this comrade was one of the most emotional ever seen in Bihar Read the rest of this entry »

Maoist School in Chhattisgrah

Maoist School in Chhattisgrah

MIDNAPORE: Bikash, CPI (Maoist) leader in charge of Lalgarh, denied that any hardcore Maoists had been arrested. “We had said earlier also that the joint forces could not arrest even a single active CPI (Maoist) leader or any member of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army. All they could do was arrest some leaders of the People’s Committee against Police Atrocities (PCPA), who had led the movement against police atrocities,, and members of a few other organizations.”

Bikash also challenged the home secretary to give examples of cases where Maoists stood in the way of development projects.

“On the other hand, the joint forces stopped the construction of our health centre at Chakadoba in Belpahari,” the Maoist leader said. “How dare police and jawans threaten common people who voluntarily joined construction projects? They were threatened that they would be booked as Maoists if they did not continue to work. Police are also trying to create problems at Bhulageria and Read the rest of this entry »
