Maoist leader killed, four held in Chhattisgarh

Chhattisgarh police Monday gunned down a deputy commander of the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) and arrested four of his colleagues, officials said.

‘We raided a CPI-Maoist hideout in a hilly area under Bhansi locality in Dantewada district and shot dead a deputy commander and arrested four of his colleagues including a minor boy,’ Superintendent of Police Amresh Mishra told reporters at the district headquarters in Dantewada, some 380 km south of capital Raipur.

Police have recovered some arms from the arrested militants.Forested interiors of Dantewada district along with Bastar, Narayanpur, Bijapur and Kanker that form the 40,000 sq km Bastar region are known to be Maoist stronghold since late 1980s.Three Maoist rebels held in Orissa Read the rest of this entry »

Bastar: Jawan on board? Drivers prefer to beg or flee

Raipur, Sept. 6: In the Maoist stronghold of Bastar, drivers prefer to abandon their vehicles if policemen board them.

Reason: A rebel diktat prohibits bus and taxi owners from ferrying the men in uniform.

Three days ago, sources said, a group of security personnel boarded a private bus from a stand in Narayanpur — one of the Maoist-hit districts of Bastar.

The jawans of the state police were travelling to a remote village where they were posted.

Noticing the personnel, the bus’s owner came and begged them to get off the bus. After a prolonged pleading, the jawans got down and got on another bus. This time, the bus’s driver and conductor fled.

“We are left with two options, plea or flee,” said a Bastar bus operator reluctant to be named. Read the rest of this entry »

Imphal, September 06, 2009: Pointing the difference between security forces and the PLA cadres, the proscribed RPF has advised the central security forces to go back to their homes before time runs out.

A press statement issued by the outfit’s department of publicity chief GM Changjou security forces have been working for salaries and are always waiting eagerly for leave.

On the other hand, the insurgents have been fighting valiantly for the motherland putting their lives at stake.It is natural for any two party fighting a battle to use all their resources to finish off the other party.

What is important is respecting international laws applicable in a battle/confrontation, the outfit noted.Till date, the PLA cadres have been acting in conformity to the international laws in all the battles they fought, it claimed. Read the rest of this entry »
