Tribal peoples blockade National Highway in Orissa, demand release arrested villagers

Report by Orissadiary correspondent; Sundergarh: The Tribal peoples have blockade National Highway (NH-23) From Friday at Silipunji demanding release of 30 people, who were arrested suspecting their links with Maoists.
As per information about 500 ( Male and females ) villagers of Chandiposh, Mundatola and Silipunji under Bonai Sub-division led by Birmitrapur MLA George Tirkey, sat on a Dharna on the NH -23 from Friday claiming that the police had arrested innocent villagers branding them as Maoists on August 27 who had abducted Ajit Bardhan, Sub-Inspector of Koida Police Station on July 16. At that time the peoples had blocked the NH.and the district administration had assured them to release thewm. But since they have not been released.
They had blocked NH-23 linking Rourkela and Bhubaneswar via Talcher by felling trees leaving hundreds of vehicles, mostly trucks, stranded.The villagers also blocked the Rourkela-Barsuan rail line used for transporting raw material to Rourkela Steel Plant from the mining areas.
