PATNA: Prabhavati Devi, wife of CPI(Maoist) leader Arvind Kumar, has accused the police of harassing her family members. Her accusation has come close on the heels of arresting of her son and brother on charges of being hand in glove with the ultra Left outfit.
She said her son Prince and brother Prabhat Kumar were implicated on the charge of possessing arms and ammunition though not even a single arm was recovered from them. "Police cooked up the story only to hide their failure to trace out Arvind," said Prabhavati.
A Sevika in Anganbari at Sukulchak village (Jehanabad district), Prabhavati said that the media also fell into the trap and reported only the cock and bull story of the police without verifying the fact. She reiterated that not even a single arms, ammunition, cartridges, CDs etc were recovered from the duo. Moreover, the raid was conducted in the house when both Prince and Prabhat were conspicuously absent.
She said that the raid was carried out at the behest of SSP Vineet Vinayak and the raiding team included DSPs Pankaj Kumar and Rajesh Kumar, besides inspector Ramakant Pandey of Kankerbagh police station.
She said that her husband was released by a court in 2005 and a few months later after the Jehanabad jail break the police are hunting for Arvind. But the police failed to date to trace him out. Out of sheer frustration, now the police are picking up relatives of Arvind on false charges.
She said that though she respects her husband’s views, neither she nor her son had ever treaded on this path. "I feel honoured to say that Prince is teaching in a coaching institute," she said.
She has demanded that the raid at her son’s house be probed, both her son and brother be absolved of false allegations, action be taken against guilty officials and seized articles be returned. TOI
