Development doesn’t mean giving jobs alone my friend. It means more than that. People loudmouthing over development do not see it so.
The fruits of development should reach to all. Roads are for pedestrians too, at times scantily clad and too weak to walk, not for costly cars alone.
I never say Maoists give jobs to people. Nor do I say they are always right. But the cause they fight for is genuine. Many people are starving to death in rural India. The authorities and Corporate media say it is because of malnutrition, a euphemism for starvation. The Maoists are fighting for the creation of a just society where there would be no starvation deaths. Let me say I never agree with their ways. I hate their terrorism. And why it is silent over the attempts to plunder Godawari basin by Ambanis though the party has a strong presence in Andhra Pradesh. (example 1) They fight for the poor in their countries,capture power and once they become the rulers, turn themselves it a dictatorship government. The ruler will be ruthless,kills his own comrades for power politics, make their countries more poorer by there idotic plannings and finally disintegrate the entire country E.G – USSR and YUGOSLAVIA.
(example 2) they capture the power with the help of other communist countries.the dictator will rule the countries like a king. He, his family and his comrades will feed on exotic foods brought from all over the world which is purchased by them from donations made by non-communist countries and other NGO organisations from capitalist world which were meant for the development of the country .But the children of same country were tried and shot dead for begging from foriegners for atleast feeding them with atleast one-squire meal a day or they face death due to starvation.Here the COMMUNIST KING will allow only his son to be his successor and so does the fellow comrades their sons for their repectable posts e.g NORTH KOREA.(example 3)-they capture power by massing people.they wage numerous wars on neighbouring countries to asertain there power by using there very own people as there CANNON FODDER. When their army has no food they wage war between their very own people in the name of CULTURAL REVOLUTION and finally end their CULTURAL REVOLUTION by murdering and cannibilzing their very own people. Atlast they will align to capitalist countries ,recieve funds, build more powerful armies, sometimes attack there fellow communist countries,produce prohibited weapons, sell them illegally to other rogue countries and the profits will be invested in the name of ruling elite.but the poor are always the poorer and these poor are illegally trafficked by there ruling elite for a lumpsum money to some capitalist countries for an extra earning E.G PEOPLES REPUBLIC OF CHINA.

All over the internet and here too I see a lot of ppl ranting at the Maoists, abusing them, calling them traitors, cowards, etc. However, NONE of these ppl have the courage or honesty to address/ discuss the germ of the problem: why does the Maoist movement flourish at all? Because that will bring out all the REAL but uncomfortable issues about the criminal exploitation of Adivasis and shameless plundering natural resources.

this war is a protracted war. like it or not, it is upon us. the state and its corporate aides have placed war on us. even non-armed struggles are being crushed in orissa and mp. crpf jawans in narayanpatna can’t believe that they were forced to kill 148 unarmed villagers a few days ago. this is right after they suffered the loss of 76 people in the war which has claimed many lives and caused all kinds of violence on both sides.
those crpf jawans also come from working classes but they went there as a complete killing machine designed by chidambaram. he has wanted to play india’s saviour and vedanta’s hero ever since he quit Vedanta’s board of directors to become a minister. the loss of crpf jawans is sad but it has to be kept in the context of the regular sustained violence and losses inflicted by the indian state on the people of this country for the last 60 years. the colonial mentality has continued. it is now the brown man’s burden. chidambaram and manmohan want to teach ‘ backward ‘ tribals how to be more developed and educated. what they’ve forgotten is that these same regions have fought and resisted oppression from time immemorial when manmohan’s immediate ancestors weren’t even born. remember 1857, banaras, 1900s, tebhaga, telangana and all the other struggles?
we will teach manmohan politics and economics that london didnt teach him. we will teach chidambaram economics that harvard didnt teach him.
fight this war in your own sphere. oppose operation green hunt. stand in support of people’s movements. hail the alternative development projects being carried out by the people and the maoists.

Now what would have happened,had this maoist movement reached my village 25 years back.i too would have been a maoist,waging battle against state,blowing schools,killing innocent peoples,extorting money in name of movement.today you are eulogising these extortionists,looters,murders same way my elders used to those dacoits.today my village has got handpumps,nali kharanja,pakki road,14 hour electricity,95% houses are pucca houses,productivity of wheat is 9 quintal per bigha on the average.there are some 12 tubewells for irrigation.i have seen my village developing in past 25 years,hunger is no issue today.i am witness of this development.you have to understand that development needs safe environment.naxal affected areas didn’t give government enough time for development.

I was born in Bastar and I am very much attached to this place . My family is well know in and around the circle of Bastar. We had a lot to lose to these Naxals since long time . Our home was intruded and my grand parents were asked to leave the home that they made some time back . Now the naxals make arms and ammunitiions in that home. One of my cousins was killed by these very naxals for no reason . Human life is an important one. And in my opinion these Inhumane Ultras would never come to know of it. They are brainwashed. This is a class struggle. After Independence these poor people(Proletariat) got nothing. they gave their lands for power project, but in their home, they don’t have electric.Some people even don’t have proper house, they build their house in dense forest. Last year I visited Purulia, one of the of West Bengal,their I felt Adivasis struggle. So, I think these Adivasis people are doing right thing. They are doing their job.

DGP Chhattisgarh, Vishwaranjanji only clarified certain points about the real intention of the Maoists. He also showed me for the first time many secret documents of the Maoists which opened my eyes to the atrocities committed by the Maoists. He is always ready for free and frank discussion with anybody and everyone. I also think he is a believer in human rights.

1)Year 2002-Kargil coffin scam:The three Indian Army officer named in the chargesheet include Major General (retired) Arun Roye, Colonel (retired) SK Malik and a serving officer Colonel FB Singh.These guys made money on the coffins of dead soldiers of Kargil.
2)Sukhna land scam:That investigation indicted seven officers, including a Major General, in the Ranikhet Kumaon Regimental Centre land scam while Military Secretary Lt Gen. Prakash is the Colonel Commandant of the Kumaon Regiment. It was a double whammy for the Army Chief General Kapoor and his Principal aide.
The defence analysts here at New Delhi believe that this state of affairs where the Chief of Army Staff is patronizing the officers that have been proved guilty of corruption, the Indian Army is bound suffer badly.
3)Liquor scam:Army generals selling canteen liquor in outside market:
Even as the government placed 14 senior military officers under investigation for corruption, it emerged that four others — all brigadiers —may have been involved in the illegal sale of subsidised military liquor.
The four brigadiers’ role became known when the army was examining the involvement of Major General Gur Iqbal Singh Multani, top officer of their division, in the massive sale of military liquor in the open market.
4)Admiral gorshkov aircraft carrier deal:The Indian Navy has ordered a high level inquiry against Commodore Sukhjinder Singh associated with the Rs 11,000 crore Admiral Gorshkov (renamed INS Vikrainadlya) Aircraft Carrier deal after his objectionable photos with a Russian women were surfaced.
The photographs were reportedly sent to the Indian Navy by Indian intelligence officers. Singh is said to have influenced the performance of his official duties. The issue will be probed by an officer of the rank of Vice Admiral of Indian Navy.
Russian Aircraft Carrier Admiral Gorshkov has been in controversy for quite a long time. Its price soared from Rs 4,870 crore in 2004 to Rs 11,650 crore this year after Moscow increased the price almost three fold for refurbishing the Aircraft Carrier. The project has been delayed by about five years.
There are worries within the Defence and Intelligence establishment that the inquiry may open up a Pandora’s box and may lead to involvement of other senior and naval officers associated with project.
5)Fake militant killings for medals.
Brigadier SS Rao, against whom a general court martial opened on May 9 in relation to the infamous fake killings of militants in Assam in 2000.In this rather unique case,the brigadier poured tomato sauce on live bodies and made it seem like it was blood.Mera bharat mahaan.The fake encounters were recorded to win gallantry awards.
6)Proceedings against Major General LK Chopra were initiated for alleged impropriety in the procurement of digital cameras and IT-related equipment for the army. He has got the proceedings stayed by the Delhi high court.
7)In yet another scam related embarrassment for the Indian Army, three officers, including one brigadier and two colonels, have been summoned to join a Court of Inquiry (CoI) ordered on the basis of an internal probe indicating financial irregularities running into crores in military farms based at Karu (Leh), Kargil and Jammu.
The CoI, to be headed by Nagrota-based chief of staff (CoS) of 16 Corps, has been convened by the Army commander of the Northern Command and is slated for hearing on August 10 at Nagrota.
The officers who have been asked to join the inquiry for their alleged role in the Rs 3-crore scam are Brigadier PK Tikoo, deputy director general (military farms) at Army headquarters; Colonel P Bali, director military farms (Army headquarters); and Colonel Sudhir Kashyap, who is presently working as director (military farms) at Western Command.
According to the initial inquiry, the alleged scam involved milk supply by military farm, Karu, which was responsible for supplying around 8,000 litre fresh milk every day to troops deployed in that area. As per the report, on papers 8,000 litres of fresh milk was shown to be purchased every day, whereas, actually only 4,000 litres of fresh milk was being bought afresh, while the rest was being made by using milk powder. The inquiry was ordered by the Northern Command HQs after several complaints about the military farms of the region were received by the Army authorities.

Police and judiciary are not the priorities of our government because our people do not vote on such issues. Our people vote on caste and religious grounds. People always get a government they deserve. Unless people change their priorities, government priorities will hardly change.

At the root of India’s problems with poor governance and corruption is a flawed electoral system that forces our netas, babus and businessmen to generate loads of slush fundsInfosys Technologies’ chairman and chief mentor NR Narayana Murthy has the ability to say it like it is. A year before he hangs up his boots, Murthy has cut loose on our unspeakable netas and babus, accusing them of a fundamental lack of ethical behaviour — though in not so many words.
Our netas, he said, saw no need for transparency and behaved like masters. Our IAS babus were no better. Their general administrative skills and colonial mindset were largely unrelated to the needs of the day. As for governance, there’s no such thing, and accountability is largely absent in the system. His solution: abolish the IAS and set up an Indian Management Service manned by specialists who were paid market-clearing wages.
Murthy is only half-right. He has diagnosed the symptoms, and said little about the underlying disease. The IAS as such is not the problem. The question is: why does the IAS cadre behave like it does? Why does it treat its customers (citizens) like chattel? Why do their bosses (the babus) focus more on accumulating wealth than on delivering governance? The answer lies with us. Murthy himself excoriated citizens for apathy, which allowed corruption to flourish and criminals to go unpunished.
To understand the malaise at its roots, we need to start with our flawed democratic system. The cost of winning elections creates a huge demand for unaccounted cash to bribe the voter with. This is why no honest person can hope to get into politics. Even the not-so-dishonest politician needs lots of moolah to win the next election. This can only come from corruption.
The system is built around this fundamental flaw. This brings us to the next big stakeholder in corruption: business. Since businessmen cannot afford an unstable policy environment, they have a stake in funding sleazy politicians. Businessmen running competitive enterprises cannot afford to divert huge sums of money to bribery and skullduggery — unless there is another source for it. This is one reason why they get into rent-seeking behaviour. In order to generate volumes of cash without business risk, they seek opportunities to make money out of scarcity. In the past this was done by manipulating the licence-permit raj. In the post-liberalisation era, the focus has shifted to land (“they ain’t making any more of it no more”) and spectrum (again, a limited resource).
Ever wonder why no one can afford a decent home in Mumbai or in any of India’s big cities? Politicians and businessmen have ganged up on you to bottle up available land and make money for themselves. Land is released by netas and babus in driblets, so that prices can be raised forever, and slush funds generated.
Former World Bank chief economist Raghuram Rajan makes the same point in his latest book Fault Lines. He told DNA in an interview: “The predominant sources of mega wealth in India today are not the software billionaires who have made money the hard way by being competitive in a global economy. It is the guys who have access to natural resources or to land or to particular infrastructure permits or licences. In other words, proximity to the government seems to be a big source of wealth.”
This is why when Murthy talks of lack of transparency, it is a mere description of the problem, not its underlying cause. If the neta, the babu and the lala (the rentier class of businessmen) are hand-in-glove to make a pile for themselves by generating scarcity, why would any of them want to be transparent?
The neta-babu-lala combine is replacing genuine, participative democracy with a narrow kleptocracy laced with populism. To bring in the vote, the politician prefers the grand feudal gesture (doles for the poor) to genuine empowerment and reform; the businessman prefers land-grab (klepto-capitalism) to building a genuinely profitable business model through hard work; and the bureaucrat prefers to block change rather than facilitate it since he has more to gain personally from it.
The only way to weaken the nexus is by making democracy cheaper and election funding transparent. This may not eliminate corruption altogether, but would take away the main reason for it. Elections can be made cheaper by state funding of political parties and tax-free contributions, but we also need to use technology better. If, for example, we create a countrywide broadband network that can reach every village, no neta will need to hire hundreds of jeeps and helicopters to reach his message to voters. He can do it from anywhere. He can communicate directly with his voters — just as his rivals can. Voters, armed with Nandan Nilekani’s unique ID, will even be able to vote over the internet. The only way to stymie a corrupt kleptocracy is to make democracy less expensive.

New Delhi: Days after the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) reported that soldiers in Siachen were served food unfit for consumption, a retired senior Army officer has been taken into custody for his alleged involvement in the scam.
Retd Lt Gen SK Sahni is accused of involvement in meat and dry rations scam for troops in Siachen. On Thursday, he was brought to Indian Army’s Western Command Headquarters. He will face a court martial starting Friday this week for his alleged role in irregularities in procuring meat and dry rations for troops in Siachen and other high altitude areas.
The CAG report which was tabled in the Parliament on Tuesday says that soldiers were supplied wheat, rice, pulses and edible oil 28 months past their expiry date. The auditor has also found a serious lack of competition in filing of tenders for the purchase of ration. In fact, it points out that a single vendor bagged contracts for more than 36 per cent of the purchases.
It also says that about-to-expire food items were bought at cheaper rates by contractors and then supplied to army units.
The Army Supply Corps (ASC) spends Rs 1,440 crore every year on rations. It is reported that rations worth Rs 1.92 crore were untraceable in Northern Command as of March 2008.
However, speaking to CNN-IBN, Lt Gen Sahni challenged the Army to prove the allegations.
“The charges against me are fake they pertain to procedural aspects and not to ration. I am ready to face any punishment if charges are proved against me. I can challenge Army’s decision but I am innocent,” said Sahni.
Retd Lt Gen Sahni, a former director general of the ASC, is the highest-ranking officer in the defence services till now to face a court martial for his alleged involvement in a corruption case.
He was attached to the Jalandhar-based 11 Corps for the Summary of Evidence (SoE), which was completed on July 10 and after it recommended to continue disciplinary action against him, orders for his General Court Martial (GCM) were issued by the authorities concerned, Army sources said.
A Court of Inquiry constituted in 2005 had recommended disciplinary action against him in the case. Sahni retired from the Army a year after the inquiry was instituted against him. The officer was also charged for procuring poor quality pulses for troops posted under the Northern Command in Jammu and Kashmir.

DMK chief M Karunanidhi’s daughter, Kanimozhi who is a close friend of Raja, helped him return to the cabinet post in spite of the stiff opposition the minister faced.
Barkha, lobbying on behalf of Kanimozhi and Radiai, negotiated ministerial berths for Raja and other DMK members with Congress leaders, according to the report.
Barkha along with Hindustan Times editorial director Vir Sanghvi negotiated with the Congress leaders.
The Central Bureau of Investigation and the Income Tax authorities, who were tapping phone lines of Radia and others, stumbled upon Barkha’s dealings and are looking her role and dealing with other ministers as well. However, the CBI is yet to initiate any action against Barkha and other journalists who are also involved in the scam.
Raja has been facing the Opposition heat in the Parliament and has refused to resign over corruption charges.
The group editor, Barkha, is close to Radia and Sanghvi. She also writes a weekly column in the Hindustan Times. On Saturday, May 01, 2010 in the column she wrote, “As a political journalist, I have to confess, that I am almost shock-proof when it comes to the entrenched corruption of many of our netas and the deals they strike to keep the wheels churning.”
Ofcourse,what she conveniently forgot to mention was that she was one who was running with the hares and hunting with the hounds at the same time.

I have been reading a bit about Maoists and there struggle in India. The poor in India are getting poorer and the rich are getting richer….no second thoughts about it. But the challenge is what to do about it….would the gun solve everything; maybe, I am not preaching non-violence or violence to that matter of fact.
We don’t have to go far; all we have to do is look across the border and at China. China prospered after the People’s revolution, the Royalty of China was replaced by Mao and since then the Communists in China have replaced the nobles of the past and the Communist elite have become Nobles of present.
We have to tackle the menace of poverty. The growth in India like China is very limited to the major cities and hubs. Just like in India, poor are being exploited in communist China and honestly maybe even more. Atleast in India the poor can still vent there frustration but not in China.
India’s failure has a lot to do with the corrupt politicians and bureaucrats. We gained independence from the Queen only to be replaced by our own home grown kings and queens. Our politicians are currently doing everything to enrich themselves but nothing to enrich the society or the masses.
My point is lets look at thing a bit deeper and see what we can do to ensure that the next revolution will be something which will benefit the masses and not just replace the existing ruling elite with another elite ruling class. We have to remember – Absolute Power corrupts absolutely.
The second question is, me being a Nationalist, what has happened to us as Indians. Are we not even capable to invent our own revolution, why do we have to look across the border?
I believe there are lot of Indians in India and abroad who can see the plight of the poor and the backward classes, and may even want to support the —- so called Maoists movement—- but don’t because of the name, and the fear for the name what it can do and also there is talk about Maoists getting supported by China which can very quickly work against the current movement.
Since the Communists are fighting for the right of the people and for the cleansing of the countries corrupt system, why don’t they call themselves BharatVadi or something that identifies with India and Indians? I know this will be a bit of a strategic shift but will silence a lot of critics, open ranks for lot more people to join and make it harder for the politicians to suppress it.
This movement has to take a nationalistic approach and appeal to masses. The poor don’t only exist in the forests or remote parts, there are poor in the streets of Bombay, Delhi, etc. It is not that corrupt politicians are suppressing people only in West Bengal or Orissa, people are being suppressed everywhere.
In my opinion there needs to be a three prong strategy:
– First and foremost: inclusive appeal, our own nationalistic revolution with a doctrine for inclusion. Learning from global revolutions, taking lessons from where others failed and ensuring that we don’t subscribe to philosophies that are 50 or 100 years old. Communism in a shape that it is known has not been successful anywhere in the world. Fidel Castro recently acknowledged that Communism is not working for Cuba, and this is a country of a few million people and we are talking of India with more than 1 billion people. China itself has distanced itself from Mao’s philosophies and honestly China is not a good example anyways. China has a very good facade in the front about accomplishments, growth and progress but if you look a little behind it in there villages and interior of China the situation is way worse than India. We should devise or hone our own revolution, learning from all but creating our own.
– Secondly and equally important is the Public Relations. PR can make or break a winner. It is imperative that mainstream media reports what this revolution stands for and what it is trying to do. It has to be a ground-up operation. A battle is not won on the battle field but infact it is won by how the winner is projected. Image, image and image can only take this to the next level.
– Last but not the least, need to build support outside, you cannot afford to have the major global players looking at you as a movement that will work against there interests. There needs to be a policy for lobbying foreign governments and making them understand that this revolution is not something that they should fear about. Just as the developed countries say, that development in the developing countries needs to come from inside and this is what we are trying to do. Foreign aid agencies and relief agencies need to be contacted and should be provided access to the tribal areas for them to do the relief work and be able to get the message out to the developed world. It is very similar to what some non-profit and relief agencies are doing in the Amazon forests.
I believe the “Maoists”, I would like to refer them as “BharatVadis” or “Nationalists” are fighting for the same cause and inequalities that the likes of Subhash Chander Bose, Bhagat Singh, Mahatma Gandhi, Chandarshekhar Azad, Sarabha, and others fought for. The lesson we have to learn from our past struggle is that our forefathers wanted azaadi, which they achieved, but they never adequately planned for what to do after. And then came in the opportunists who were quick to fill-in the void left by the British Empire and became the new Rajas of India.
