S Asia Solidarity Group to hold picket on Lalgarh issue

Posted by Admin on July 20, 2009

24naxaliteLondon , July 19 South Asian and Indian groups in the UK have planned a protest against siege of Lalgarh in West Bengal by security forces, terming it as a”test case”for establishing UPA government’s new model of developments hrough the use of force.
South Asia Solidarity Group and Indian Workers Association along with supporters will hold a picket infront of the Indian High Commission here next Friday, which will be organised by a group called’ Campaign Against Land Grab and Forced Displacement of People.’

Their demands, include unconditional apology from the police involved in the operation during which they alleged indiscriminate arrests, rapes and illegal detentions, took place.

Compensation for the injured and the families of those murdered in the attacks have also been demanded, besides noting that negotiations will be held in public.

The members of the groups said the Lalgarh campaign in the adivasi-dominated western region of West Bengal, forced hundreds to flee their homes.

“For the new UPA government and its belligerent Home Minister P Chidambaram, Lalgarh is a test case establishing that its neo-liberal model  of development&aposwill be enforced through unrestrained violence by paramilitary forces.
