Bhopal: Senior IPS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre, Vijay Raman who has been recently promoted as a Special Director of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) by the Centre to deal exclusively with Maoist menace in the country, will be posted at Raipur in Chhattisgarh.

Orders in this regard would be issued soon, official sources said here today.

Born in Kerala, the 58-year-old Raman will co-ordinate with Director Generals of Police (DGPs) of the seven naxal-affeced states including Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand and network with the armed forces having powers to call them at any point of time, they said.

He was authorised to report directly to the Union Home Minister, P Chidambaram and the Union Home Secretary about the problems being faced by the security forces during anti-Naxallite operations and other related issues, they said.

The IPS officer of 1975 batch of Madhya Pradesh cadre, Raman came to limelight for his role in nabbing dreaded Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorist commander Ghazi Baba in Kashmir in 2003, sources said.

He had also given his services to the Special Protection Group (SPG) during the Prime Ministership of Rajiv Gandhi, they said. Zee News
