Chhattisgarh govt to modernise its police to fight the Maoists

Raipur (PTI): In the wake of a spate of naxal attacks in the recet months, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh on Friday said new police stations and check posts will be created at several places and personnel will be given modern arms and equipment.
Special attention will be given on the modernisation of the police with the help of information and technology, the Chief Minister said.
Apart from raising confidence level among the security personnel, they will be provided with additional night vision binoculars, bulletproof jackets and other equipment, Singh told reporters after a meeting with state Home Minister Nanki Ram Kanwar and senior officials at the police headquarters here.
The meeting attended by Director General of Police along with additional director Generals, SPs and other officers was held to discuss law and order situation, naxal violence and other issues.
Announcing more recruitment of police officers in the ranks of SDPO and SHO, the chief minister said the officials have been instructed to work with better corodination with those security personnel deployed in naxal-hit areas.
