The 2-day fast-unto-death by the Communist Party of India (ML) activists in Patna came to an end on Tuesday when party leaders Prof. Nawal Kishore Chowdhary and CPI-ML politburo member Ramjatan Sharma offered them fruit juice urging them to cancel their fast.

The members of the party had been on fast since last Sunday to press for their demands including stepping up on flood and drought relief efforts in Bihar, lowering the crime rate in the state, and implementation of the recommendations made in the Land Reform Commission report.

“The NDA government led by Nitish Kumar is a government of big landowners and land thieves where the welfare of the poor, dalits, and backwards have no place in the society,” said Sharma.

Santosh Sahar, party office secretary, said that if their demands were not met soon, the party would be forced to intensify its stir that would ultimately bring down the Nitish administration in the state.

Sangeeta Singh, Meena Tiwari, Arun Singh, Nand Kishore Prasad, Satyadeo Ram, and a number of other party members participated in the fast-unto-death dharna.
